So far in the course of the investigation of the British phone hacking and corruption scandal 50 people have been arrested and subsequently freed on bail.
Today, the former head of Rupert Murdoch's British Newspaper outlets, News International, Rebekah Brooks has been charged in connection with the phone hacking scandal that has the parent company, News Corp, which owns Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post and 20th Century Fox film studio, among other assets, is one of the world’s largest media conglomerates, scrambling to distance themselves further from her.
Rebekah Brooks husband, Charlie, an old friend of British Prime Minister David Cameron from their days at Eton College, was also reportedly charged in connection to the case.
Five others were reportedly charged in connection with this case as well:
The other suspects were identified as Ms. Brooks’ personal assistant, Cheryl Carter,
the head of security at News International, Mark Hanna, a chauffeur, Paul Edwards; and two security consultants, Daryl Jorsling and a second suspect who was not named at the time.
