Yesterday, a missile which is believed to have been fired by a US drone aircraft hit it's target killing several al-Queda members. The airstrike is believed to have killed al-Qaida’s #2 leader in Yemen, Saeed al-Shihri along with others.

Saeed al-Shihri, a Saudi national who fought in Afghanistan and spent six years in the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay is believed to have been killed by a missile after leaving a house in the southern province of Hadramawt, according to Yemeni military officials.

According to some reports, two senior U.S. officials confirmed al-Shihri’s death but could not confirm any US involvement in the drone airstrike.

al-Shihri’s group was behind the underwear bomb attempt on a US bound international flight on Christmas Day 2009 and an effort to smuggle bombs in printer cartridges onto US bound cargo planes in 2010.
