The right to petition your government is guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. We the People is a platform that empowers the American public to take this action like never before – it’s a way for anybody, anywhere, to speak directly to the government and become an agent for change.
Petitioning has the potential to enact real change, but it’s also your fundamental right as an American citizen, and an opportunity to connect with a community of like-minded people who are invested in making a change. Ideally, running a petition on We the People is just the start of something bigger — a long-term, robust form of civic engagement.

We The People currently has several petitions running on the site but one is by far in the lead with digital signatures was created by a user by the name of A.D. on January 20, 2017
The highest ranking petition on the site is currently:
Immediately release Donald Trump's full tax returns, with all information needed to verify emoluments clause compliance.
"The unprecedented economic conflicts of this administration need to be visible to the American people, including any pertinent documentation which can reveal the foreign influences and financial interests which may put Donald Trump in conflict with the emoluments clause of the Constitution."
This petition for President Trump to release his tax returns, which President Trump has stated that
nobody truly cares about, currently has 420,370 signatures which is enough to get a response from the White House - it isn't that much in the larger scheme of the nations registered voters.
The petition is half way through the 30 day life cycle and hasn't even hit the half million signature level yet, The Trump administration won't see this as much more than a few disgruntled voters who's candidate lost the election. If however this petition were to reach a few million in signatures, it might stand a chance.
