Rapid Deployment Marines are on alert and able to be deployed into the region. A contingent of the Marines' new fast reaction force for rescue missions in Africa has been moved to Sigonella, Italy, for possible action in Egypt.
The Egyptian military has now ousted Egyptian President Morsi and taken control of the country.
