Marine Sgt. Gary Stein posted his thoughts publicly against his commanding officer, President Obama.
Lawyers for Stein said that because his comments were made off-duty, not in his capacity as a Marine, they are protected by the 1st Amendment.
Lawyers for his command say Stein has violated several orders restricting Marines from making partisan political statements or comments 'contemptuous; of the chain of command, including the commander in chief.
He lost sight of the Marine creed.
What is the Marine NCO creed?
Let me help those that do not know.
It is short and to the point:
"I am an NCO dedicated to training new Marines and influencing the old. I am forever conscious of each Marine under my charge, and by example will inspire him to the highest standards possible. I will strive to be patient, understanding, just, and firm. I will commend the deserving and encourage the wayward.
I will never forget that I am responsible to my Commanding Officer for the morale, discipline, and efficiency of my men. Their performance will reflect an image of me."
Sgt. Stein undermined the Core by ignoring his NCO Creed.
The Marine Non-Commissioned Officers are the Corporals and Sergeants responsible for the lives of their men. They must be leaders of men. They carry with them the unbroken traditions of duty and dedication to their assigned mission.
At the center of this is the long-standing policy and tradition in the Marines that you must respect the Rank if not the person. You do not have to respect the person

I am sure he has not lost his taste for the media spot light yet - just wait until he starts to do tour dates and book signings.
