Incoming French President Hollande proposed a "New Pact" with Europe during his inauguration speech at the Elysee Palace. The new Socialist leader is working to align himself and his country's direction with the economic stimulus and fiscal discipline previously imposed by Germany. French President Hollande's first stop as President of France is a meeting with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel as a sign of the importance he attaches to the Franco-German relationship.
As strange as this might sound, I am somewhat uncomfortable with this sudden rush to Germany by the new Socialist leader of France.
