On Sunday the NSA stopped the controversial Metadata collection program that was initialized by the USA Patriot Act (Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001) on October 26 of 2001.

The termination of the program was brought about by the USA Freedom Act (Uniting and Strengthening America by Fulfilling Rights and Ensuring Effective Discipline Over Monitoring Act OF 2015) enacted on June 2 2015. The USA Freedom act modified or restored several provisions of the USA Patriot act which had expired the day before.
